Jonathan G. Ownby, MD
Associates
Dr. Jonathan Ownby joined Atlanta Diabetes Associates in 2012. He is a Tennessee native and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lee University. He graduated medical school from the University of Tennessee and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Alabama Birmingham. He then moved to Atlanta and completed his Endocrinology Fellowship at Emory University.
Dr. Ownby practices general Endocrinology and focuses on insulin pump management for patients with type 1 diabetes, pituitary tumors, thyroid disease and adrenal disease. He also performs ultrasound guided thyroid biopsies in office.
His research findings have been published in well-known medical journals and works as an investigator and sub investigator in multiple clinical trials currently active within the practice. He has presented before annual meetings of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and travels to educate other doctors regarding new and emerging endocrine therapies.
In 2014 he was honored by being chosen to become part of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) One Group initiative in recognition of his accomplishments in community educational and networking activities; this distinction also recognized his efforts in creating awareness of cutting-edge research supported by JDRF in hopes of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. He is also not afraid to be an advocate for his patients when insurers do not want to cover essential medicines or devices and has been interviewed by news media and reached out to law makers to be sure that his patient’s voices are heard.
